another cover for you lover(s). this time a remake of dolly parton and kenny rogers' 1983 hit. seems like this cover was released all the way back in april 2008. i guess i missed that train, but i've lucky managed to find myself on the return leg. it's a nice collaboration between canadians; feist and constantines.Wild Flag performs 'Nothing' on Sound Opinions from WBEZ on Vimeo.

A couple of weeks ago I was pointed in the direction of Oliver Tank who likes to "make music using computers". A new fairly new act hailing from sunny Sydney. He definitely has some very interesting tracks on his soundcloud, which seem perfect for a sunday afternoon's listening. Songs such as "Drifting Apart" have a real chilled vibe - imagine if mogwai got hold of a computer and the computer gave birth to a floppy-disk (maybe, the comparison works and maybe it doesn't - whatever, music is what you make it).
Dawn Golden & Rosy Cross recently recorded the Crows’ “Colorblind,” a song from 1999′s This Desert Life that was featured prominently in the film Cruel Intentions. So what’s the reason for getting behind the Crows? Is there just not enough Crow love these days?“There really isn’t a good answer for this,” Dawn Golden principle Dexter Tortoriello tells Hive. “When I was a kid I despised that ‘Mr. Jones’ song and really never heard anything else of theirs. ‘Colorblind’ was a track that really surprised me. The lyrics are incredibly poignant, and the composition was simple and pretty.” Tortoriello transforms the rather straight forward rock tune into something haunting while retaining elements of the original melody. “As most of my songs come about, I was sitting in my bedroom playing piano and it just sort of happened,” he says. “I wanted to add an intensity to the song that isn’t really there in the original, which is where the screeching feedback and distorted synthesizers came into play. My main goal is to take the more abrasive elements of music and noise and present them as a means to summon beauty and despair in a way they usually don’t.”
This is Manchester's No Ceremony with their HURTLOVE. Not much else to say, cos they iz keepin' it on the D-L.
ok, i'm done hibernating. time to share some gems that i've found over the past month. first, i have a collaboration between active child and how to dress well, it's uncannily good. who would have though that active child and how to dress well would get together and put out a song of such epic proportions.
i've uploaded the sumrmixtape to soundcloud, as i heard there were some problems with downloading it from my dropbox.

soundcloud comments on belispeak:
Béatrice Martin (Coeur de pirate) covers The Weeknd's 'Wicked Games'. This cover is done in true Coeur de pirate style with only classical grand piano and vocals.
'What The Water Gave Me' is the first single from Florence's upcoming LP due for release sometime in November.

"The PHB are astronauts of progressive soul, moored at the stellar point where rock, funk and psychedelia bloom into cosmic-disco amazingness." (The Guardian)
this is a very very good remix by blackbird blackbird of tUnE-yArDs' bizness. it's fair to say i'm a big fan of san francisco's blackbird blackbird - not only can they remix but they have some great songs of their own.

Frenchman, Anthony Gonzalez (M83), will be releasing a double long playing al-BUM in october. If you like smoking and cars captured at warp-speeds then this song is for you; however if you don't like smoking or warp-speed galaxy effects then I'd probably suggest a beyonce music video or something. This is hazed electronic pop at one of its finer moments.
...but i don't have any money. the drums new album due for release sometime in september. money is the shortest, yet longest story of my life.
i posted about wait what's mixtape a couple months ago on our facebook page, but forgot to make a post here. anyway, it's pretty much a mish-mash (in the best possible kind of way) of the xx's debut album and notorious b.i.g's greatest hits collection."the notorious xx began as an idea in my sister’s apartment, where I was trying to figure out what it would sound like hearing juicy over vcr, and since then expanded to include all 11 tracks of the xx’s debut album chopped, sliced, and mashed up with biggie’s vocals."

Toro's been busy making a new EP, "freaking out", and i bring to you the first glimpse, which comes in the form of a cover-song (Alexander O'Neal & Cherrelle's - "saturday love").
i was thinking to myself: "i wonder what bombay bicycle club are upto?" and luck had it - a new album is set for release at the end of august. so i've got one of their new songs called "shuffle" as a gift from me to you.
so it's sunday and i've put together a little playlist, which is comprised of some of my favourite artists at the moment and some of remixes they've done.
Blood Orange is the new project of Devonté Hynes.
Washed Out's (Ernest Greene) first full length playing album (Within and Without) is set for release on 12th July on Sub Pop. I had a wee listen to it yesterday on t'internet. Within and Without has a very different feel musically, in comparison, to his previous EP releases, which were "a lot" more upbeat or better yet had a jazzy vibe. Personally, I prefer some of his older works, but that doesn't mean his new album isn't a work of wonder. What I like about his music is that you can see a progression of his moods, in the different tracks, across all of his albums. There aren't enough superlatives for Within and Without, so I'll just say fuck me it's good!

jeremy glenn is so fucking cool... but you won't take my word for it?
"DE LA MONTAÑA is a musical group organized in Santiago and currently based in Berlin. Our members hail from the US (Michigan), Germany, and Chile."
so we all know the naked & famous from such hits as 'young blood' and 'punching in a dream'. but do you know the people behind the name?
arise, snakadaktal. i'm not really sure how i came across this band - my browser went all funny (seriously, all of my tabs disappeared) and i was transported to snakadaktal's chimera. perhaps, an act of God or a sign that google chrome is not infallible.
this is a cool remix of bon iver's calgary. it's a pretty mean feat to remix one of bonnie ver's songs, but thunderlust does a good job - kinda surprising with a name like thunderlust.“We’re just happy we’re making music that people actually want to listen to."
coconino by ennui is just plain nice. along the lines of tennis (the band, not the sport) nice. no doubt, coconino is the highlight of the three songs i managed to get my filthy paws on! yum, guitar.
this came up in my search for something new, as i've been quite disappointed with the music of june. it's quite strange. extremely lo-fi vocals, so much so that you can't really hear them, but i think it's the chimy chimes and punchy drums that make this good. imagine if the abominable snowman made his ice cave into a studio, actually there's no need to imagine - just listen to glass bubbles.
Alec Koone (Balam Acab) at the tender age of 19 makes chillingly-eerie, yet wonderful music. The sound is synonymous of his label, Tri Angle Records. I can't say enough good things about this guy. His album WANDER / WONDER is due for release August 29th, so be sure to circle that date in your calendar.Alec Koone: “It’s an open ended album, and I think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. It’s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a Bach Cello Suite, I see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. It’s also an album that should be listened to loudly.”
this is a funky retro remix of body language's social studies by plastic plates. i think plastic plates has hit the nail on the proverbial head with this remix and has managed to elevate social studies to new heights. you're truly sad when the song ends, because then you realise that your daydream of a miami beach was just that... a dream.
george lewis jr., aka twin shadow, is the newest addition to my fast growing new music collection. i only found out about this sensual moustache wearing man last night and i've been tentatively listening to his music all day. i don't believe this to a be a fleeting love, but one i will cherish for years to come... maybe it's the facial hair.
