Frenchman, Anthony Gonzalez (M83), will be releasing a double long playing al-BUM in october. If you like smoking and cars captured at warp-speeds then this song is for you; however if you don't like smoking or warp-speed galaxy effects then I'd probably suggest a beyonce music video or something. This is hazed electronic pop at one of its finer moments.
I've only watched the video about five times - I'd like to make it six, but I've got a sudden urge for a fag.
i posted about wait what's mixtape a couple months ago on our facebook page, but forgot to make a post here. anyway, it's pretty much a mish-mash (in the best possible kind of way) of the xx's debut album and notorious b.i.g's greatest hits collection.
"the notorious xx began as an idea in my sister’s apartment, where I was trying to figure out what it would sound like hearing juicy over vcr, and since then expanded to include all 11 tracks of the xx’s debut album chopped, sliced, and mashed up with biggie’s vocals."
a bit like Beach House in vocals + Joy Formidable in guitars, Deaf Club awaken your lull with their bass+drums in what can only be described as a brooding manner. The comparison to other bands makes you a bit nostalgic for something that probably never was, but it's good stuff all the same.
Overall, it's a nice first EP, with glimmers of promise,
but skip "It, She", i think that one's a bit shite, or don't skip it, but you'll probably agree with me.
Toro's been busy making a new EP, "freaking out", and i bring to you the first glimpse, which comes in the form of a cover-song (Alexander O'Neal & Cherrelle's - "saturday love").
Toro y moi's cover is great, but you can't beat Alex and Cherrelle's saturday love. mmm.. yeaaah.
i was thinking to myself: "i wonder what bombay bicycle club are upto?" and luck had it - a new album is set for release at the end of august. so i've got one of their new songs called "shuffle" as a gift from me to you.
but also as an extra extra special treat i'll also share with you a remix bbc's lead singer, jack steadman, made for david lyre's "in arms" (awhile back).
so it's sunday and i've put together a little playlist, which is comprised of some of my favourite artists at the moment and some of remixes they've done.
It's been a bit of a struggle finding an act to follow up blood orange, as it was a bit of a man-crush.
Anyway, i knew i just had to move on and i think this tensnake remix of little dragon's ritual union is a perfect way. tensnake have slowed the tempo slightly and stripped the song down to its bare necessities, so as to control your head-bops per second. OH and these guys are Swedish.. surprise surprise.
Rather than me regurgitating facts that I think are interesting, perhaps you can do your own leg work and check out his wikipedia page - lightspeed champion. Sutphin Boulevard fills you with 80s nostalgia.
Why can't we just have the 80s on a continuous time loop?
Washed Out's (Ernest Greene) first full length playing album (Within and Without) is set for release on 12th July on Sub Pop. I had a wee listen to it yesterday on t'internet. Within and Without has a very different feel musically, in comparison, to his previous EP releases, which were "a lot" more upbeat or better yet had a jazzy vibe. Personally, I prefer some of his older works, but that doesn't mean his new album isn't a work of wonder. What I like about his music is that you can see a progression of his moods, in the different tracks, across all of his albums. There aren't enough superlatives for Within and Without, so I'll just say fuck me it's good!
Oh and some interesting facts- he recently got married and is good pals with Chaz (Toro Y Moi). Actually, I guess they're not that interesting as facts go, but I just had to share the juicy gossip with someone... anyone...
