to be honest, i don't know much about this guy, except that he is obviously a gentleman and a scholar (nb. give me a free EP and i'll call you whatever you like).

you can download fthrsn's EP hysteria for free at: http://fthrsn.bandcamp.com and/or (no pressure) listen to his song "tony carter" below.

oliver pa-tank

A couple of weeks ago I was pointed in the direction of Oliver Tank who likes to "make music using computers". A new fairly new act hailing from sunny Sydney. He definitely has some very interesting tracks on his soundcloud, which seem perfect for a sunday afternoon's listening. Songs such as "Drifting Apart" have a real chilled vibe - imagine if mogwai got hold of a computer and the computer gave birth to a floppy-disk (maybe, the comparison works and maybe it doesn't - whatever, music is what you make it).

You can download "Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion" by Oliver Tank for free from media fire (click here).

+ if you really like him then also have a look-see at his soundcloud page here.

Django Django.

(Reindhart, not). Apparently they took their name from the lips of Django Reindhart's stuttering teacher.

I love the simple beat, the harmonies + colours.

They're playing at La Cigale in Paris on 6th + at Hoxton Bar&Grill in London on 8th November.

I HAVE A BETTER COMPARISON FOR WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE -
ARTHUR RUSSELL

he's now dead, so it's okay to sound like him, right?

all is lost in yellow light.

with a voice like Antony Hegarty, Danish "When Saints Go Machine" are the kind of synth-band I like to come across. Mixing hot and cold chords, i feel in a whirl.

The video's from their debut album Konkylie. The old couple almost make me cry.

Check out our facebook page for an "Up Close" version of their track Kelly.

colorblinded by cruel intentions.

Dawn Golden & Rosy Cross recently recorded the Crows’ “Colorblind,” a song from 1999′s This Desert Life that was featured prominently in the film Cruel Intentions. So what’s the reason for getting behind the Crows? Is there just not enough Crow love these days?

“There really isn’t a good answer for this,” Dawn Golden principle Dexter Tortoriello tells Hive. “When I was a kid I despised that ‘Mr. Jones’ song and really never heard anything else of theirs. ‘Colorblind’ was a track that really surprised me. The lyrics are incredibly poignant, and the composition was simple and pretty.” Tortoriello transforms the rather straight forward rock tune into something haunting while retaining elements of the original melody. “As most of my songs come about, I was sitting in my bedroom playing piano and it just sort of happened,” he says. “I wanted to add an intensity to the song that isn’t really there in the original, which is where the screeching feedback and distorted synthesizers came into play. My main goal is to take the more abrasive elements of music and noise and present them as a means to summon beauty and despair in a way they usually don’t.”

This is from Apparat's new album The Devil's Walk-

the footage is from Wim Wenders' "Paris, Texas" starring Harry Dean Stanton who you might recognise from David Lynch + Francis Ford Coppola things.

The music tastes like a lot, but feels a little new from the German man. I think it's worth tasting the whole album. join me?

ok, i'm done hibernating. time to share some gems that i've found over the past month. first, i have a collaboration between active child and how to dress well, it's uncannily good. who would have though that active child and how to dress well would get together and put out a song of such epic proportions.

mmmm... alternative R&B. yes? YES!
