i DREAM abOUT balam acab.

song: Dream Out
artist: Balam Acab
official video

From the filmographer: "Filmed over the course of this past winter's snowfall. Old 35mm stills from my Mom's childhood were projected over the snowy landscape. Colors were scattered throughout the forest and recaptured using slow shutter speeds. Layering and movement was emphasized giving the memories, in the depths of the soul, room to breathe and recapture a feeling words have no way of expressing."

This is Alec's (Balam Acab) favourite song from his old EP.

"DE LA MONTAÑA is a musical group organized in Santiago and currently based in Berlin. Our members hail from the US (Michigan), Germany, and Chile."

that's pretty much all that is known about these guys. this is fresh off the press!

so we all know the naked & famous from such hits as 'young blood' and 'punching in a dream'. but do you know the people behind the name?

here's a wee insight:

i wish them all the bad luck in the world!

snakadaktal - genuine high school music.

arise, snakadaktal. i'm not really sure how i came across this band - my browser went all funny (seriously, all of my tabs disappeared) and i was transported to snakadaktal's chimera. perhaps, an act of God or a sign that google chrome is not infallible.

so snakadaktal are from melbourne and are living the real high school musical dream (yes, they're still in high school!). they'll be releasing their debut EP in august sometime, but for now i've got a video of their single chimera to whet your insatiable musical appetites.

thunderlust does bon iver.

this is a cool remix of bon iver's calgary. it's a pretty mean feat to remix one of bonnie ver's songs, but thunderlust does a good job - kinda surprising with a name like thunderlust.

niki and the fox?

niki and the dove are back with their new song: the fox. interestingly, they're vogue's artist (band) of the week.
“We’re just happy we’re making music that people actually want to listen to."
previous niki and the dove blog post.

p.s. i really like what they've done with that door. very chic.

coconino by ennui is just plain nice. along the lines of tennis (the band, not the sport) nice. no doubt, coconino is the highlight of the three songs i managed to get my filthy paws on! yum, guitar.

ALL tiny CREATURES

this came up in my search for something new, as i've been quite disappointed with the music of june. it's quite strange. extremely lo-fi vocals, so much so that you can't really hear them, but i think it's the chimy chimes and punchy drums that make this good. imagine if the abominable snowman made his ice cave into a studio, actually there's no need to imagine - just listen to glass bubbles.

oh, why, balam acab...

Alec Koone (Balam Acab) at the tender age of 19 makes chillingly-eerie, yet wonderful music. The sound is synonymous of his label, Tri Angle Records. I can't say enough good things about this guy. His album WANDER / WONDER is due for release August 29th, so be sure to circle that date in your calendar.
Alec Koone: “It’s an open ended album, and I think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. It’s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a Bach Cello Suite, I see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. It’s also an album that should be listened to loudly.”

illness makes me nostalgic; I'd forgotten how much I love Cass McCombs. "That's That" is one of my favourites and this is new:

BODY LANGUAGE

this is a funky retro remix of body language's social studies by plastic plates. i think plastic plates has hit the nail on the proverbial head with this remix and has managed to elevate social studies to new heights. you're truly sad when the song ends, because then you realise that your daydream of a miami beach was just that... a dream.

TWIN SHADOW

george lewis jr., aka twin shadow, is the newest addition to my fast growing new music collection. i only found out about this sensual moustache wearing man last night and i've been tentatively listening to his music all day. i don't believe this to a be a fleeting love, but one i will cherish for years to come... maybe it's the facial hair.

his debut album 'forget' came out late last year, so i suggest a listen - it's good.
